Controlled Donation After Circulatory Determination of Death in Spain.

چکیده
We read with interest Magliocca’s editorial regarding our recent publication on the perioperative management of liver recipients of uncontrolled or unexpected donation after circulatory determination of death (uDCD) (1,2). One comment in particular, that “the ethical and legal environment of transplantation in Spain preclude[s] the use of [controlled donation after circulatory determination of death (cDCD)] transplants as an option,” drew our attention.

متن کاملDonation after brain circulation determination of death
BACKGROUND The fundamental determinant of death in donation after circulatory determination of death is the cessation of brain circulation and function. We therefore propose the term donation after brain circulation determination of death [DBCDD]. RESULTS In DBCDD, death is determined when the cessation of circulatory function is permanent but before it is irreversible, consistent with medica...
متن کاملThe circulatory-respiratory determination of death in organ donation.
OBJECTIVE Death statutes permit physicians to declare death on the basis of irreversible cessation of circulatory-respiratory or brain functions. The growing practice of organ donation after circulatory determination of death now requires physicians to exercise greater specificity in circulatory-respiratory death determination. We studied circulatory-respiratory death determination to clarify i...
متن کاملHow the distinction between "irreversible" and "permanent" illuminates circulatory-respiratory death determination.
The distinction between the "permanent" (will not reverse) and "irreversible" (cannot reverse) cessation of functions is critical to understand the meaning of a determination of death using circulatory-respiratory tests. Physicians determining death test only for the permanent cessation of circulation and respiration because they know that irreversible cessation follows rapidly and inevitably o...
متن کاملLung Quality and Utilization in Controlled Donation After Circulatory Determination of Death Within the United States.
Although controlled donation after circulatory determination of death (cDCDD) could increase the supply of donor lungs within the United States, the yield of lungs from cDCDD donors remains low compared with donation after neurologic determination of death (DNDD). To explore the reason for low lung yield from cDCDD donors, Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipient data were used to assess the...
